▪️D0089: Thermino input data for SAP10.2

Technical Note: Thermino input data for SAP10.2

(D0089)

NOTICE

Please note the information in this document is for guidance only and may be used to help you model and assess the energy performance of dwellings when Sunamp heat batteries are installed in homes. Whilst every effort is made to ensure the information is accurate, the information is provided as is and without warranty. Energy performance results depend on the correct input of data and the outputs from different SAP-approved software models.

1. Introduction

1.1 General

The thermal performance and the functional categorisation of hot water heating products affects the Energy and the Environmental efficiencies and ratings of domestic dwellings carried out using SAP10.2. This technical note covers the SAP10.2 input parameters required for the 5th Generation Sunamp Thermino products for SAP assessments.

The following tables provide guidance for relevant input data for planners, specifiers, installers and end-users of Thermino® ePlus and xPlus heat batteries. This data is to be used in version 10.2 of the Standard Assessment Procedure (SAP) for energy performance modelling of a dwelling. The relevant SAP10.2 documentation and worksheet can be found here: https://bregroup.com/expertise/energy/sap/sap10

1.2 Symbols Used

In these instructions the following symbols are being used to draw the user’s attention to information of particular importance.

WARNING

Indicates a hazardous situation that, if not avoided, could result in death or serious injury.

CAUTION

Indicates a hazardous situation that, if not avoided, could result in minor or moderate injury or material damage.

NOTICE

Signals information that is considered important but not hazard related.

1.3 Abbreviations

The following abbreviations are used throughout the document:

PV - Photovoltaics

SAP - Standard Assessment Procedure

2. Thermino ePlus & xPlus data fro SAP10.2

2.1 Thermino ePlus input data

Thermino ePlus models provide hot water heating only (via the integrated heating element) using direct grid electricity (no Optimino key required), or direct grid electricity and solar PV via diversion controller (only if Optimino PV02 key is used).

NOTICE

Equivalent conventional products
: Direct hot water cylinders, direct hot water only thermal stores (electric).

2.2 Thermino xPlus input data

Thermino xPlus models provide hot water heating with an optional backup direct electric heating element. Thermino xPlus offers the flexibility of multiple input heat source options including:

  • external heat pump as primary heat source (requires Optimino hp key)

  • external heat pump AND solar PV as primary heat sources (requires Optimino hpPV Key)

  • external boiler as primary heat source (requires Optimino vf Key)

  • external boiler AND solar PV as primary heat sources (requires Optimino vfPV Key)

Equivalent conventional products
: Indirect hot water cylinders, indirect hot water only thermal stores.

NOTICE

Table 1 & 2 notes:

1. Calculated from the storage capacity of the Heat Battery and assuming that the equivalent hot water cylinder thermostat is set at 60°C, mains cold water inlet temperature is at 10°C and the stored energy utilisation factor of the cylinder is 0.85.

2. Calculated from the storage capacity of the Heat Battery when charged to heat pump set points and assuming that the equivalent hot water cylinder thermostat is set at 60°C, mains cold water inlet temperature is at 10°C and the stored energy utilisation factor of the cylinder is 0.85

2.3 Adding PV diversion

If using Thermino ePlus or xPlus heat batteries with solar PV functionality (using the appropriate Optimino PV key), then please follow Appendix G4 for treatment of PV diverters, and Appendix M1 for treatment of Photovoltaics. The calculation and associated cost-savings methods can be found in the SAP10.2 documentation: https://bregroup.com/expertise/energy/sap/sap10

2.4 Adding heat pumps

When using heat pumps with Thermino xPlus models (by using the appropriate Optimino hp or hpPV key), relevant input heat pump data can be accessed from the Product Characteristic Database (PCBD). The PCDB can be accessed here: Building Energy Performance Assessment - Support Website : Search (ncm-pcdb.org.uk)
